A Reminder: AI Tokens Are Not AI Companies

Can we talk about the elephant in the room ?

Half the "AI tokens" pumping right now have nothing to do with AI.They have an AI - themed name, an AI - looking logo, and a whitepaper that uses the word "neural" 47 times.

That's not the same as building AI.

The Pattern Is Always the Same

1. AI does something impressive(ChatGPT update, new model release)
2. Crypto Twitter starts looking for "AI plays"
3. Random tokens with AI in the name pump 5x
4. People buy thinking they're investing in AI
5. Token dumps.Repeat.

I've watched this cycle at least six times in the past year.

What "Decentralized AI" Actually Means

Some legitimate things are happening in the AI x Crypto space:

Compute Networks : Akash, Render — these actually provide GPU compute for AI training.Real infrastructure.

Data Markets : Getting training data in a decentralized way.Less proven but real concept.

Inference Networks : Running AI models on distributed hardware.Some projects are working on this.

Agent Infrastructure : Protocols for AI agents to transact.Early but interesting.

What Most "AI Tokens" Actually Are

Memecoins with AI branding.That's it.

They're not building AI. They don't have AI researchers.The "AI" part is literally just marketing.

This isn't inherently bad — memecoins have their place. But don't confuse them with actual AI infrastructure plays.

How to Tell the Difference

Quick checklist:

• Does the team have AI / ML backgrounds ? Or just "blockchain developers" ?
• Is there a working product ? Or just a roadmap ?
• Can you actually use the AI ? Or is it vaporware ?
• Is the token actually used in the system ? Or just traded ?

If you can't answer these, you're gambling, not investing.

My Unpopular Opinion

Most AI tokens will be worthless in two years.Maybe 5 % are building real things.

That doesn't mean you can't trade them.Pump and dumps can be profitable if you know what you're doing.

But don't sit there thinking you're "early on AI infra" when you're holding something that's just betting on human FOMO.
